Hardanger Embroidery

This form of counted thread work creating a lace-like appearance originates in the Hardanger region of Norway. White fabric, white thread (or another monochromatic color combination) a needle, scissors and a little practice, turn plain fabric into a piece of lace.  Traditionally used for household linens, most of these designs are small and work up quickly.  From ornaments to framed pieces, these are new uses for a traditional ethnic technique.
