Contrast is the identifying feature of Blackwork. Usually dark threads are worked on a light colored background. In this type of Blackwork, of Spanish and English origin, geometric graphed patterns fill shapes drawn or basted on the background fabric. The patterns are worked with backstitch, running stitch and/or cross stitch. |
